What is Quick Lime Powder?
Quick Lime Powder is Quick Lime (CaO) precision-ground to 325 mesh (approximately 30 µm average particle size). The fine particle size significantly increases surface area and reaction rate, critical for specialty industrial applications requiring uniform, controlled reactivity.
Shreenath Metchem's Quick Lime Powder achieves 85%-92% CaO with low MgO (≤1.5%) and low SiO₂ (≤1.0%), among the cleanest fine lime grades available. Where our Quick Lime Powder is used, and what it does in each process.
Injected as fine powder into molten steel with a carrier gas to remove sulphur before casting. The 325-mesh fineness creates a large reaction surface, so sulphur comes out fast and the steel casts cleaner and higher grade.
Used to produce calcium salts including calcium propionate, acetate, and gluconate for food, pharmaceutical, and industrial use. Fine CaO at 85-92% purity reacts with organic acids, and low impurity levels hold the yield and purity of the final product.
Applied to contaminated industrial sites, where it reacts with soil moisture to raise pH and turn dissolved heavy metals into insoluble forms. The 325-mesh grade spreads more evenly, giving uniform treatment on less lime per tonne of material.
Used for precise pH control during API synthesis and pharmaceutical intermediate manufacturing. Small pH deviations at critical stages shift the purity, form, and safety of the drug, and fine CaO gives controlled, predictable results.
Added to PVC, rubber, and tyre compounds to neutralise processing acids and act as an acid acceptor during sulphur vulcanisation. It also absorbs trace moisture, and at 325 mesh disperses evenly, preventing discolouration and weak spots in cured products.
Used in ceramic glazes to lower the melting temperature and in glass batches to improve durability and chemical resistance. Fine 325-mesh grinding mixes uniformly into the batch, giving consistent glaze quality and fewer surface defects in fired pieces.
Used in sugar mills, where it is dissolved into clarifying lime for juice treatment, and in traditional grain processing, where a dilute lime solution softens the grain and improves its nutritional value.
Added to anti-corrosion paints and primers to keep the coating alkaline where it meets the steel, slowing rust from starting under the film. It also works as a low-cost filler for body and opacity, and stays evenly dispersed without settling.
Added to polyurethane and silicone sealants, where fine CaO absorbs trace moisture that would otherwise trigger early curing. That extends working time and shelf life, and the fine particle size disperses without forming lumps in the adhesive.
Reacted with fly ash or sand in autoclaves at 180°C to form tobermorite, the mineral phase behind AAC block strength. Fine powder disperses more uniformly in the slurry, giving consistent reaction across the block and predictable strength per batch.

What does 325 mesh mean in practice?
325 mesh corresponds to an average particle size of roughly 30 µm. Grinding to this fineness sharply increases surface area, which raises both reaction rate and uniformity of dispersion.
That matters most where lime is blended into another material, such as plastics, rubber compounds, adhesives or ceramic bodies, and needs to react evenly rather than in localised pockets.
What is the exotherm value, and why is it quoted?
The exotherm value records the peak temperature reached when the lime reacts with water under standard test conditions. Ours is 210°C.
A high exotherm confirms the material is vigorously and completely reactive, which in turn indicates thorough calcination and low contamination. It is a practical single-number check on quality.
How does this differ from Quick Lime Lumps?
Same chemistry, different physical form and purity band. Quick Lime Lumps run 85%-90% CaO and are supplied in sizes from 5 mm to 60 mm for bulk processes such as steelmaking. Quick Lime Powder runs 85%-92% CaO, is ground to 325 mesh, and holds silica lower, at or below 1.0% against 1.5% for lumps.
Choose lumps where you are charging a furnace or reactor in bulk; choose the powder where fineness and dispersion matter.
